Ice Dance Round-Up: June 17-23

Ice-Dance.com is a central source for info on the weekend’s Chesapeake Open, with an album of event results. Lorraine McNamara & Quinn Carpenter took first in the junior short dance with a score of 51.46, while Rachel & Michael Parsons captured the lead in the free dance with 72.66. With only two teams competing at senior, Danielle & Alexander Gamelin easily led both short and free, with scores of 41.31 and 69.11. The results also reflect the withdrawals of junior couples Ashlyn Gaughan & Cody Lithco and Marcha Kiantrungrit & Bradley Lawrence from the short dance, and Tory Patsis & Joseph Johnson and Amy Wang & Malcolm Jones from both short and free dances.

Alongside the Chesapeake Open, the USFSA held its annual Dance Camp in Laurel, Maryland, for dance teams aiming to compete at Sectionals, with Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto contributing as coaches, and national junior silver medalists Kaitlin Hawayek & Jean-Luc Baker and several Chesapeake Open competitors in attendance.

Among Canadian skaters, Paul Poirier featured in a Q&A with the Canadian Mental Health Association on their June 23rd Ride Don’t Hide event, in which he discusses his involvement with the campaign and confirmed word of a recent ankle break.
